Running a 2021 Case IH 7240 and noticing temp spikes when unloading on the go, up to around 225 before dropping back to 185. Fan clutch seems fine, coolant mix is correct. Could it be a sensor reading high or is there something deeper going on?

Okay, so it might just be the engine getting hot. Unloading stuff can really put stress on the hydraulics and engine. I'd take a look at the coolers for any junk that might be stuck in there, or even check if the water pump is getting weak before thinking it's the sensor's fault.

Hey, also, see if there's any air stuck in the cooling system. Make sure the radiator fins are clean too. Sometimes, if the flow is blocked, you can get those quick temperature spikes, even if the coolant and fan look good.

I'll check the coolers, bleed the radiator and clean the fan. Have you seen spikes that high settle back down without causing long term issues?

yep, temperature spikes that drop back down can happen for several reasons, including a partially blocked radiator, air in the cooling system, or a failing thermostat, even if the fan clutch seems fine

You’ve made some excellent points! The troubleshooting steps you’ve shared are really practical and it’s comforting to know that if we sort out the flow issues those spikes can settle down without any lasting harm.
