I’m inspecting my CVT, wondering if the belt is still in good shape or if it’s ready to call it quits.
What’s your preferred way to check its condition without having to do a complete teardown?
I’d appreciate any tips to save the crew some time
I've had a bad experience with a CVT belt before, so now I make it a point to check the width and look for any glazing under the cover. If there’s a burnt smell or if it looks shiny, it’s pretty much ready to be replaced.
I simply pop off the cover, grab a flashlight, and use my fingers to inspect it.
I’m checking for any cracks, fraying, or missing pieces, and I roll it by hand.
It only takes about five minutes and usually gives me all the information I need.
No need for major disassembly just check the deflection, edges, and dust. If there’s a lot of black dust or the wear is uneven, that’s a major warning sign. And if it’s squealing, then it’s definitely asking for attention.
