If you’re noticing clunks in your loader, you might be questioning whether it’s just typical wear or a sign of something more concerning. Let’s exchange some inspection techniques, practical checks, and handy tips to help you figure out what’s just play and what might require a closer look.

Had a clunky start after a long week of moving gravel and I tried to brush it off hoping it would just fix itself.
Spoiler alert: it didn’t. A quick check with a pry bar revealed some worn bushings.
Thankfully I caught it early which saved me from a much bigger repair down the line.

My loader started making a clunking noise every time I dumped the bucket and I initially thought it was the pins.
But it turned out that a loose mount bolt was the real issue. After tightening it up and giving everything a good grease,
the loader stopped sounding like it was on the verge of falling apart.

Noticed the same noise after spending the morning clearing snow and worried that something serious was going wrong.
I checked the pins, bushings, and mounts, only to discover that some dry joints were causing the play.
A little grease and some adjustments made everything feel solid again.
