Powershift vs. CVT troubleshooting insights?

I'm looking at Case IH transmissions, specifically how well they perform and how reliable they are. I'm wondering what problems you've had with Powershift or CVT systems. Have you noticed any trends or found any solutions that work?

Case IH transmissions are generally known for their reliability, but Powershift systems can sometimes experience delays in shifting or even slippage. On the flip side, CVT systems offer a smoother operation, though they tend to be more complex. Keeping up with regular maintenance and fluid changes is key to avoiding these issues. When problems do arise, software updates or replacing certain components often helps resolve them.

@ihserviceman is right on maintenance and trends I see are Powershift shift delay from low regulated pressure or bad inching pedal switch plus clutch fill time calibration fixing harsh or lazy shifts, while CVT complaints often trace to charge pressure, temp sensor drift or hydrostat calibration. What model and hours are you dealing with so we can point you to the right pressure checks and calibration routine?

Great points all around. I’d just add that worn solenoids or issues with the valve body can also create Powershift lag. And for CVTs, don’t forget about potential CAN bus faults or unreliable position sensors, they can really mess with the entire control logic.
