my wife and I are thinking about buying our first combine harvester, the Case IH AF10, and I’m overwhelmed by the options list. I’m trying to figure out what’s actually worth the money for performance and future resale.

I wonder will a 45ft auger be enough for a 50ft header, or is the 50ft head too much for this machine?
thinking about buying a $700 auto turn, is it gonna be a waste, and is the automated straw spreader worth it if we’re keeping this for 7 years?

also, is the $1000 rock trap necessary, or just an upsell? finally, can I skip the massage chair, or is it mandatory with the luxury cab?
I'd love some input from anyone who has specced one of these outwhat are your must haves?

I remember being right where you are last fall looking at options like they were written in a different language. On the AF10, you can unload a 50 ft header with a 45 ft auger, but it might be a tight fit especially in smaller fields. Just make sure the reach can handle your truck or wagon without any awkward angles.

Once sat down with the dealer and went through a spreadsheet, and one thing really stood out.
Automation features like auto-turn and spreaders can save a lot of energy during those long days, and resale folks definitely pay attention to tech packages. Personally, I'd value a straw spreader more than auto-turn just for resale reasons, but everyone has their own preferences.

We spent hours debating the extras before deciding on ours. A rock trap isn’t just a gimmick it keeps larger debris out of your feeder house and rotor, which is crucial if your land is rocky. And believe it or not, comfy seats can really make a difference when selling. But if resale is your main concern, focus on the tech and spreading options first.

This is a great mix of practical insights, ranging from header reach and field fit to clever feature choices and resale value. Experience-based advice like this is exactly what empowers others to confidently spec out a machine.
