9250 4wd tractor PTO. HELP!

I have a solid 9250 4wd. Engine is great trans is great. Did not have a PTO. So I found one on a 9170 from a salvage yard on a machine where the engine went down. After checking that it's the basically the same frame and same transmission, final drop box is the same part number I got it. Had the joy of installing it. And it worked! But now, it doesnt. So I can get it to operate if I remove the cylinder where the engage cable attaches. But it seems ike it needs more travel than my operating lever will provide. Or maybe Im just stuck. Any thoughts?

The cable setup may not be giving that PTO cylinder enough stroke compared to the 9170 it came off of so I'd reason you check adjustment first

If the lever's not moving far enough, the setup from the 9170 might not line up just right with your 9250. Have you looked at the cable bracket or lever arm to see if they're shaped or sized different, or if the cable's hitting its limit before it fully engages?

I'm with the other here, I'd also suspect a throw issue. The problem is almost certainly that your lever and cable system isn't providing enough travel to fully stroke the spool. Check the external linkage adjustment on the PTO unit, and use the service procedure for a 9170 PTO since that's the unit you installed. Also confirm the PTO cable is routed cleanly, not binding, and hasn't stretched. A tired or kinked cable will always rob you of that critical final travel needed for engagement.
