Well honestly, that bracket looks like it held the drive chain guard, if I'm seeing it right. Try to check for old bolt marks or paint shadow. They might help confirm what used to be there.

@Brian Griffith You're probably right. It does look like where the chain guard would've been. For me I had a similar bracket and the outline of the old guard was still clear in the paint. Hmm... maybe it still depends on how well you see the marks or something.

I mean we can start saying this or that, but at the end of the day it's probably going to be a lot of guess work, so rather than pointing you in the wrong direction, I'll say you might want to look for a parts diagram. It will help you a lot.

I think the bracket usually holds the seed tube or a linkage for the planting mechanism. If you have a parts diagram for the Case 900, check it and it'll confirm exactly what's supposed to mount there so you don't miss anything.

Definitely! A parts diagram is definitely the best approach. Those brackets are often crucial for ensuring the proper alignment of seed delivery and controlling depth. It's much smarter to double-check everything now rather than find out something's missing halfway through the season, especially when getting replacement parts might become tricky.

Absolutely, parts diagram saves headaches. Those brackets are key for depth and delivery, and catching issues early is way smarter than scrambling mid-season.

It's tough to say for sure without seeing the exact bracket, but on Case 900 planters, the most commonly missing components tend to be seed tube guards, depth gauge wheels, or closing wheel arms. Typically, Case planters come with designated brackets for seed meters, fertilizer attachments, or closing systems

I'm helping a neighbor restore an old Case 900 he picked up from a farm. We're missing a bracket near the seed meter and weren't sure what it's for. Could it be for a fertilizer attachment or something else? How do you tell if the seed tube guards are original or replacements?

I think the bracket close to the seed meter probably serves as a mount for a fertilizer attachment. To determine if the seed tube guards are original, check for any specific markings from Case or look for a wear pattern that corresponds with the age of your planter. If you're not certain, it's a good idea to reach out to a Case dealer for genuine parts.
