How to spot worn track or wheel drive components

Lately, my Quadtrac has been feeling a bit off, there's a hint of slippage and some noise that I just can’t put my finger on.
I want to catch any wear on the drive components before something goes wrong mid-season.

What are the key inspection points and warning signs you look for to identify worn final drives, sprockets, or bearings before they fail when you need the machine the most?

Listen for any whining or grinding noises from the final drives, bearing sounds will get louder when under load. Also, watch out for metal in your gear oil during changes, sparkles or chunks indicate internal wear. Address issues early to avoid a complete rebuild during harvest when time is critical.

If you're noticing slippage, it often points to wear on the clutch packs in the drives.
Look for a burnt smell or discolored oil.
Feel each track drive housing after running, if one side is significantly hotter, it may indicate developing internal issues.

The sprocket teeth should be smooth and rounded. If they’re sharp or hooked, they’re worn and will wear down tracks faster. Jack up the machine and check for play, if you can wiggle the track frame excessively, it could mean loose bearings that need fixing to prevent serious failure
