As winter rolls in and the temps drop, it’s the perfect time to dive into a new skill or hobby. With projects shifting indoors, maybe you’re thinking about forging, tuning, welding, or even mastering a brand-new tool. So, what’s on your agenda this winter, and how’s it going so far?

When fieldwork slowed down, I started learning welding in the shop. My welds aren’t pretty yet, but it feels great. Winter goes by faster when I’m working with metal and picking up new skills.

With the cold weather keeping me inside, I’ve been fixing up old tools and experimenting with tuning. Progress is slow and coffee is essential, but it’s much better than just scrolling online. It’s satisfying to bring old stuff back to life.

After saying I’d do it for years, I’m finally getting into basic forging.
I’ve made my share of mistakes and my arms are sore, but every little success feels significant.
Winter evenings pass quickly when the metal starts to cooperate with the heat and focus.

As soon as the snow fell, I jumped into those machine tuning projects I’d been putting off all year. It’s slow and quiet work, but there’s something oddly calming about it. Plus, fewer distractions mean I actually complete tasks lately.

Winter typically sparks a new tool obsession for me. This year, it’s all about precision measuring and setup. It might not be flashy, but getting everything just right is satisfying especially when spring rolls around, and everything runs smoothly without any hassle.
