Surviving the coldest morning in the field

I got up before dawn, everything was frosty, and my fingers were not cooperating at all. With my hat, gloves, and a thermos that refused to let me down, I made it through. I’d love to know what’s the coldest morning you’ve ever faced while preparing for fieldwork, and how did you get through it?
 
people think Nevada is all palm trees and heat, but those 4:00 AM starts in the high desert are brutal
I’ve seen it hit -5°F with a wind that feels like it’s cutting right through your Carhartts
my trick is to keep a box of those HotHands adhesive toe warmers. if my feet stay warm, the rest of me can handle the frost
