884 4wd PTO won't disengage

Title says it all. Looking for some troubleshooting tips. Thanks, John
Is your linkage adjusted correctly? It happens that the rod from the lever gets sloppy or bent and just isn't pulling the clutch far enough past the engagement point. If the linkage looks good, you might be looking at internal clutch drag. Try running the tractor for a while, getting the hydraulic oil nice and warm, and then shut it off and immediately try to disengage it. If it releases when warm, the friction plates are probably sticking. That's common after long periods of inactivity or with old oil. A full hydraulic or transmission oil and filter change is often the fix for sticky plates on these models, assuming the clutch itself isn't totally smoked.

Late to the party. Good breakdown, solid advice there! Warming it up and checking for sticky plates is a really smart idea.
