I just bought a 2017 case ih 8240 combine with the 2388 style horizontal spreader, and I’m struggling to get the width I need
I’ve changed the paddle angles, but it didn't really change much.
has anyone figured out how to get these things to reach 40–45 feet? I’m thinking about swapping in bigger paddles or adding more of them, but I’m curious if anyone has already tried that to widen the throw

I dealt with the same issue after I got my 8240. Changing the paddle angle didn’t really help me, either. What made a real difference was switching to wider aftermarket paddles and taking it a bit easier on the chopper speed. It was like night and day now I'm actually covering nearly the full width of my header.

When I first used my 8240, those straw windrows drove me nuts. I experimented with different paddles, but the biggest improvement came from using heavier, taller ones and making sure the fins were balanced. Once I got that right, I was consistently reaching about 40 feet without putting too much strain on the spreader.

I spent weeks fiddling with settings before I figured out that the stock paddles just weren't made for wide headers.
I switched to a high-capacity paddle kit and adjusted the rotor speed and deflector timing.
Now, it throws much wider and I’m not battling with stripes every time I go over the field.
