Hello again. I have looked all over the internet (pictures, videos, etc) as well as my manuals but can't find a picture of the hood nut that the hood attaches to up by the battery tray. My tractor is real beat up but i have the hood back on right now and everything lines up except the rear bolt hole to the battery tray. It is about an inch off. My tray no longer has the captured nut, it is just any empty square hole. I assume the captured nut will be centered in the square hole. OR by chance it is offset by an inch!? If I try and adjust my hood to line up with the square hole and move in forward, there is about in inch gap between the hood seal and the instrument panel and I think it will hit the radiator spout as well. Not right. I am starting to think something is bent pretty bad in the tray or instrument panel. This tractor looks to have been used in a rock yard or something in its past life. Anyone have any pics of what this should like for a case IH 385? I have the low center of gravity model with the muffler below the tractor. So no hole in the hood for the exhaust. Thanks in advance !!

Hey, did a little digging, and here’s what I found and hope this helps.

That square hole is likely correct for the captured nut, which centers inside the opening. The part number for many Case IH 385 hoods is 1502286C1 (or equivalent). Definitely check the tray and hinge for bends, and try loosely mounting the hood front corners first to see if everything aligns before tightening.

The 385 parts diagram (section 9‑346) shows the hood and side panels attaching via brackets and captured nuts. That square hole is likely correct, and if it’s empty or misaligned, the tray or panel may be bent.

Next steps: check part numbers for the hood brackets, measure bolt‑hole distances on the opposite side, and inspect the tray and frame for bends or twists.

Awesome, I have some on order! Thank you.

I thought the tray was bent too but it is not. Unless it is supposed to be bent backwards at a pretty severe angle. It is straight up vertical right now. I think I am going to drill another hole. I know that is not good but the hood is beat up enough it really doesn't matter.

Glad to hear it. Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together for you!
