Quick Winter Runs with Case IH Engines

Ever get that feeling when it's freezing outside, and you crank up your Case IH for a super quick task, only to cut it off before it's even had a chance to warm up? I'm curious if doing those short start-and-stop things in the winter messes with the engine or those emission thingamajigs over the long haul. Has anyone seen this happen in real life, or got any pointers if doing short runs causes problems? Spill the beans on what you've noticed and how you deal with it.

I faced this issue with my 7140 a couple of winters ago. I’d start it up for just a five-minute job and then turn it off. Eventually, I had to fix sticky injectors and deal with rough starts. Lesson learned!

I thought short runs with my 5240 during cold weather would save me time. After a season or so, I realized it was causing sluggish throttle response and more frequent regen cycles. Now, I let it idle for a few minutes before and after, even for quick tasks.
